Breed history and origin

The history and origin of Russian Blue cats is not fully documented and ergo a fun mystery to some. However, it's believed that Russian Blues originated in Russia, possibly around the port city of Arkhangelsk. It's suggested that these cats may have been brought to Europe by sailors and traders.

The breed gained recognition in the late 19th century, initially referred to as the "Archangel Cat" or "Foreign Blue." The first appearance of Russian Blues at a cat show occurred in 1875 in England. Over time, the breed's name evolved to the now well-known "Russian Blue."

Russian Blues were officially recognized in cat shows, and their elegant appearance and gentle temperament contributed to their popularity. They made their way to various parts of the world, becoming cherished pets for those who appreciate their unique qualities. Today, Russian Blues are admired for their striking silver-tipped blue-gray coat, vivid green eyes, and calm, loyal nature.
